It’s not your job….

So, I’ve always been quite obsessed (in a good way) with our Maker’s masterpieces.

From mountains, to birds, to wildflowers, to other people – I could see the amazingness of all of God’s creations.

Well…. with one exception: that one I see reflected in the mirror each day.

But after nearly 5 decades on earth I’m finally learning that it’s OK to find and see beauty in myself, too. Not only is it OK… it is absolutely essential if I want to live out everything my Maker has intended for me.

You see, Jesus taught us to “love others as we love ourselves”. However, the enemy of our soul works hard to twist our thinking until we cling to the “fake news” that we need the acceptance of others to complete ourselves.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

We are already complete by our Maker’s design and completely loved by HIM. And that frees us to love and to live… completely.

It’s time to accept ourselves and not wait for anyone else to do it. Today is the day to step into authentic living and love well.

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL Women

This is actually a re-blog from a post 3 years ago. But out of everything I’ve posted – my website stats show that this one continues to be the most searched and read.

Perhaps this is because traditional Mother’s Days gifts and greetings often exclude those who contribute to the nurturing and raising of many – but may not have their own actual children to show for it.

Whether you’ve spent the day with children and grandchildren, are estranged from your child and it breaks or heart, or if you’ve never been a mom in the traditional sense, the words in the blog below are for you. Who you are and why you do matters. Your impact and value exceeds anything you can imagine!

……………………………………..

Original post from May 9, 2016:

Happy Mother’s day to all women!

You might respond, “All women aren’t mothers”.  I beg to differ.

One definition of “mother” describes the word as a verb meaning to “bring up with care and affection”.

Yes, some women bring up children in the traditional “mom” sense of the word.

But ALL women raise up other people through mentoring, coaching, leading, and loving.

So, beautiful one…. no matter what form your mothering takes – celebrate yourself and the powerful nurturing spirit your God and Creator lovingly breathed into you.

Happy Mother’s day… to YOU!

Grace Works

“… Until we let the Christ who consorted with hookers and crooks to be our truth, the false, fraudulent self motivated by cowardice and fear will continue to distance us from abiding restful union.” – from Brennan Manning’s writing, The Furious Longing of God. (Read it and weep…. Seriously! Reading or listening to this book will likely bring tears to your eyes as your heart grasps grace).

Have you ever tried to earn God’s favor? I know i have! So I’m lovingly saying this to both of us: STOP IT!!! (And, yes. That was intentionally bold, in italics, and all caps!). Let’s just rest. It’s time you and I stop working so hard for the unfailing love we’ve always had from our Maker God. Grace works so we don’t have to.

Is Your God Too Small?

The more I seek to know God – I mean really know Him as He is not how I want Him to be – the less He seems to fit in all the man-made definitions of diety that religion and culture provide.

If I can fit God into my own understanding – perhaps my God is too small. I’m learning that God speaks through a lot more than just church and shows up a lot of places that we think He shouldn’t.

The Gift of Emptiness

Perhaps some of the emptiness from which we spend much of our lives trying to escape is actually God calling.

Emptiness… it may not be such a bad thing after all.

Perhaps it’s time to seek being HIS more than we seek being happy.

Oh, and this:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – The Apostle Paul, The Bible (Philippians‬ ‭4:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬)
